Samthane Coatings:

Top
Samthane™ coatings are a family of abrasion resistant coatings which are specifically formulated to match end-user requirements and specific rope constructions. The advantages and differences of these coatings are outlined below:

The American Group provides advanced technology in developing protective coatings and other chafe protection materials.

Samthane™ Type A
Spliceable coating used on polyester fiber double braids. Currently available on Nystron, Stable Braid and Spectron II. Samthane Type A greatly enhances abrasion resistance, helps keep contaminants from entering the rope making it easier to resplice used rope. Available in a variety of colors for easy identification, tracking time in service, keying colors to specific operations, etc. Splices, new and used, utilizing the same technique and tools used for uncoated rope. Coating adds approximately 3 to 5% weight to line.

Samthane™ Type F
Spliceable coating formulated for coating Duralex. Physical properties are the same as Type A coating. Adds approximately 3 to 5% weight to the line.

Samthane™ Type C
Non-spliceable jacketing type coating usually applied to specific sections of a line which will be subjected to extreme abrasion. The coating is very tough, with excellent resistance to cutting and chaffing. Usually applied to a thickness of 1/8", or more, which has a stiffening effect on the rope. Applied on pre-spliced ropes. This material is also used for thimble encapsulation.

Samthane™ Type S
Spliceable coating used on Spectra®, olefin, and polyester fiber ropes. A coating that adds firmness and greatness improves wear life. The coating will add approximately 3 to 5% weight to the rope. Supplied on Spectron 12 and Tenex as a standard product. Available on other products per special order requirements.

Double braided construction with a braided polyester core and braided polyester cover. Product code 800 with Samthane Type "A" urethane coating. Coating is spliceable and enhances abrasion life.

Types of 3-Strand Rope

Top
Polypropylene
This rope is economical, has permanent flotation and retains its strength. Because of its low melting point, it is not recommended for use on winches. However, its lightweight flexibility and resistance to marine growth makes it a good choice as a general fishing rope. Available in a variety of colors and also in hollow braid construction from 3/16" and larger. Specify rope lay. Large sizes are available.

Filament Nylon
Filament nylon rope is, size for size, nearly twice as strong as manila and has greater elasticity than any other rope fiber. An excellent rope for both marine and industrial applications. Nylon is not affected by oils, grease, or most chemicals. Nylon rope is used primarily for anchor and mooring lines. Available in 3/16" and larger, specify lay. Larger sizes are available.

Poly Plus®
This rope combines the advantage of both polyester (high melting point, low elongation and soft fibers) and polypropylene (light, low cost and moderate elongation). By surrounding the monofilament poly-pro yarns, this combination provides a rope which works well on bits, blocks, capstans and winch heads. Poly plus is very flexible and works well as a towline, hanging line and mooring line. This rope is manufactured from 1/4" and larger and is white with a external marker yarn. Specify rope lay. Larger sizes are available.

Manila Rope
Manila Rope is made of natural fibers which are lubricated with a preservative as a water repellant. It is a good all-purpose rope which is used extensively in agriculture and industrial applications. Available in 3/16" diameter and larger.

3 Strand SSR-100©
100% filament polyester surface cover yarns wrap over Ultra-Fiber that surround each strand core of clear Ultra-Fiber. Regular lay construction.
